User Instructions

Pre-use Information

The User Information Guide gives essential information regarding the use, care, and maintenance of each flame resistant (FR) garment. The following instructions are intended to warn of potential risks of serious injury or death, and to reduce such risks. Failure to follow instructions may increase the risk of serious injury or death. It is customer’s responsibility to familiarize self with the User Information Guide and to use garments in accordance with the instructions.

Safety Consideration

CAUTION: Read this user information carefully before carrying out activities that involve certain risks of serious injury or death. All instructions provided are intended to familiarize the wearer of the abilities and limitations of the garment to minimize harm from a thermal exposure. It is your responsibility to be familiar with the provided information so that your protective apparel will provide the intended level of protection.

FR garments are intended to provide limited protection in the event of a short duration thermal exposure, or electrical arc flash. While this garment when worn properly can serve to minimize the extent of burn injury, no garment can eliminate or prevent entire risk of burn injury.

Limitations of use

This garment is constructed from fabric that is self-extinguishing upon removal from a flame source, and is intended to provide a few seconds to react to an accidental exposure. The garment is not designed for extended exposure to flame or heat or for exposure to chemicals, hot liquids, or steam. It should not be used for fire entry, fire fighting or other activities involving extended exposure to flame or heat. This garment may lose flame-resistant properties if not laundered and maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Do not use this garment if soiled, contaminated, or damaged.

Marking Recommendations

The addition of non-flame-resistant emblems, logos, name tags, embroidery, and other heraldry may be considered but should be of minimal size. If used, the size of these items should be relatively small, the size of a business card, and may still compromise your garment in the event of a thermal exposure. Large company logos across the back of the garment should not be applied. In addition, the use of several small logos over the entire garment should be avoided. The manufacturer will mark the garment certificate label to indicate garment size. Aside from that, no other mark on or through certification safety labels or care labels on the individual garments should be made.

Warranty information

FR apparel is covered by a limited lifetime warranty from purchase date. If the FR product fails due to a material or manufacturing defect, said product will be repaired, replaced, or have the cost of the product refunded to the customer. This warranty does not cover FR product damaged due to misuse, accident, modification (including alterations and embroidery), improper care, negligence, or normal wear and tear. Reasonable discretion will be used by the customer service representative on site to determine the validity of warranty claims.

The wearer should make sure that the garments fit comfortably and are sized appropriately to your body. The FR garment should not be too loose or too tight. If the clothing is too small, it may restrict movement and increase the possibility of fabric tearing and seam damage. If the clothing is too large, the possibility of snagging the material is increased, and the dexterity and coordination of the wearer may be compromised.

Recommended Storage Practices

After each cleaning, the FR garment should be stored in a location protected from direct sunlight, heat, and excessive moisture. Extended exposure to sunlight or storing while wet may cause permanent damage that can compromise the integrity of the garment Ensure flame-resistant workwear is clean and dry before long-term storage.

Inspection Frequency and Details

Each FR garment should be inspected for damage or defects upon receipt, before and after each use, and after each cleaning. It is the user’s responsibility to ensure any garments found to have any of the below indication of damage or other noted defects must be retired from use and be repaired or replaced.

Inspect garment for damage of :
• Materials, in areas of high wear for holes (e.g., knees, crotch, seat, cuffs, elbows, shoulders, etc.).
• Major seams, for breakage or damage (e.g., inseams, outseams, seat, sleeve, side seams, etc.)
• Components, for damage (e.g., buttons, snaps, shanks, zippers, buckles, etc.).

DONNING AND DOFFING PROCEDURES

In order to ensure maximum protection as intended by design, garment must be fully fastened and tucked in so body is fully covered.

When donning (applying) FR garments, all baselayer and first layer garments should be tucked in. All fit adjustments must be made to ensure proper fit, and all buttons, zippers and fasteners must be fully secured when worn. Sleeves must be rolled down. Thumb holes should be used in garment where applicable.

When doffing (removing) FR garments, all buttons, zippers and fasteners must be unfastened to prevent damage during removal.

Proper Use Consistent with NFPA 2113

Refer to NFPA 2113, Standard on Selection, Care, Use, and Maintenance of Flame-Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Short-Duration Thermal Exposures from Fire, for more detailed information.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Cleaning Instructions and Precautions

To ensure optimal protection, clean the FR garment after each use to remove any dirt, abrasives, and/or contaminants that may compromise the protective properties of the garment. Clean all FR garments according to the provided care instructions attached to each individual garment in form of an internal care label. Failure to follow the provided care instructions on the individual garment may result in damage and/or loss of the flame resistant properties.

Do not use bleach or starch. In case of a heavy contamination with chemicals or flammable liquids, remove clothing immediately and either wash or replace with a clean garment.

FOR ANSI-107 GARMENTS ONLY: While flame resistance is guaranteed for the life of the garment, provided care and cleaning instructions are followed, the recommended life of ANSI-107 Hi Visibility garments is 50 washes due to the addition of reflective tape.

Maintenance criteria and methods of repair where applicable.

If applicable, garments should be repaired by an experienced service provider using fabric and findings in compliance with those used in the original construction of the garment. Significant alterations to the garment are not permitted as they could reduce the protective qualities of the clothing.

Retirement and Disposal Criteria

Retire damaged or deteriorated flame-resistant workwear when it can no longer be repaired. Flame-resistant workwear that has been heavily soiled or stained with flammable substances that cannot be removed by cleaning should be removed from service. These chemicals can compromise the FR effectives of the garment. FR garments suspected of being damaged shall be disposed of in a manner consistent with local, state, and federal laws governing disposal that prevents reuse.
